Notre Dame Fighting Irish
(14-2, 6-5 ATS)
Marquette Golden Eagles
(11-5, 6-4 ATS)
If it’s Big Monday, that means that it’s time for Big East basketball betting action! This week, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will put their tremendous 14-2 record on the line when they duke it out with the Marquette Golden Eagles.
The one knock that we have on Head Coach Mike Bray’s team this year is that it hasn’t even really attempted legitimate road games much this year. There has only been one real roadie, and that resulted in a 70-58 beat down at the hands of the Syracuse Orange. The Irish are a rock solid 11-0 while playing in NCAA basketball betting action in South Bend this year, but eventually, they are going to have to win some road games to move up the charts for the NCAA Tournament. Matching home wins against the UConn Huskies and the St. John’s Red Storm give Notre Dame a ton of momentum coming into this one, especially with the great game that Ben Hansbrough had against the Red Storm. He put together 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting to lead the way for that victory, and he is going to be asked to help out the Fighting Irish on the road now as well. Hansbrough is pacing then in scoring this year at 16.2 points per game, a mark matched by Tim Abromaitis. Both men bring a lot to the table and can stretch the court, and if both come anywhere near the 20 point mark in this one, it is going to be tough sledding for the Golden Eagles.
Marquette is one of these teams that just hangs around every single season in the chase in the Big East, and it feels like it is sitting firmly on the bubble each and every year. There are a ton of close calls for that big time signature win, but at least at this point, there is nothing for the Golden Eagles to grasp onto. They have covered four in a row in spite of the fact that they are just 3-2 SU in these last five games, but this is a very manageable stretch of games in the near future, especially if this one is won at home on Monday. The first five scorers for Marquette are all double digit type of players, though both Dwight Buycks and Vander Blue are just shy of the mark. Keep a close eye on Darius Johnson-Odom, who is leading the team in scoring at 15.9 points per game, as he is the one that can really light Notre Dame up from the outside.
This is Big East basketball, right? This is where home teams thrive and road teams just pray that they can survive. With the national TV audience watching closely, don’t be shocked if this is when the Golden Eagles finally get the job done and snared their Top 20 scalp that will help them move towards the NCAA Tournament this year.
