College Basketball Betting: Texas A&M Aggies vs. Texas Longhorns Pick
Texas A&M Aggies
(16-1, 6-2-1 ATS)
(14-3, 9-3 ATS)
The Lone Star State hasn’t had a showdown like this one in a long, long time on the hardwood. In one of the biggest NCAA basketball betting affairs of the season in the Big XII, the Texas Longhorns will take on the Texas A&M Aggies on Wednesday night in Austin.
The Aggies are off to a great start this year at 16-1, and they just continue to answer the bell for every challenge that has come their way. They haven’t been beaten, save for an inexplicable loss to the Boston College Eagles right around Thanksgiving, but they have only had one legitimate road game in the interim, a 69-51 win at the Oklahoma Sooners. Defensively, this is a team that has really sparkled all season long, coming up with some big time efforts against some big time teams. Texas A&M has only given up 57.6 points per game this year, ranking No. 9 in the nation. Don’t let the relatively easy schedule fool you either. This is a club that held the Oklahoma State Cowboys to just 48 points at home last week, and the 89 scored by the Missouri Tigers marked the first time a team has crossed the 60 point barrier on this team since December 18th. Khris Middleton is the man that is really going to have to come up with the huge game for the Aggies to spring this upset at UT. He is scoring 15.5 points per game this year and is shooting just short of 50 percent from the floor.
Texas might have that glaring loss to the Connecticut Huskies here at home, but aside from that, they have played very well all season long, and Head Coach Rick Barnes knows that he has a team that can go deep into the NCAA Tournament this year. We’ve done a lot of talking about the Texas A&M defense, but we don’t often really discuss the Texas ‘D’. The Horns are holding teams to just 61.4 points per game this year against a significantly more difficult schedule, and squads are only shooting 36.8 percent from the field against them. They have kept three of their last four and five of their last six foes to 55 points or fewer, and that includes holding down both the Michigan State Spartans on the road and a the Arkansas Razorbacks at home. If Jordan Hamilton is on his game, the Longhorns are a really tough team to top. He is the catalyst for a team averaging 78.0 points per game, as he has the ability to go off for 25+ every single night.
A&M is going to meet its match on Wednesday night. The Aggies just don’t have the horses to hang around in this one, and though they have gotten off to a great start this season, they are going to suffer a double digit loss on Wednesday night in the Lone Star State showdown.
