In this Stock Watch article, we take a look at a few college basketball teams that should catch your attention from a handicapping standpoint. This could be a good or a bad thing and in this case, both. Here is one team to bet on and one to avoid this week in college basketball.
On The Rise
The Connecticut Huskies are a very good college basketball program. They are 18-5 on the season, but they have stumbled a bit in the American Athletic conference posting a meager 6-4 record. They have turned that around and they are now winning important basketball games to include a big win against the Cincinnati Bearcats. From a betting stand point they have also been a great bet for basketball betting backers. The Huskies are 5-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last 5 games against an opponent from the. American Athletic Conference, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up win. The Huskies are on an incredible 5-0 ATS win streak and that will continue as they are the team on the rise for this week in college basketball.
On the Decline
Oklahoma State Cowboys
This is painfully obvious, but when you lose your best player for three games a decline is expected. Marcus Smart got into an altercation with a fan at the game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the end result is that he will not be available to his team during one of the toughest stretches of schedule all season long. Smart is averaging 17.5 points and 5.7 rebounds this season. Last year he was considered by many to be a top-five NBA pick. Instead, he opted to return to college to improve his game. Oklahoma State, now 16-7 overall, was a preseason top 10 team. Now they are a rock solid fade in the next three games. They have to go up against the best of the best in the conference with games against Texas, Oklahoma and Baylor. Ironically Smart is slated to return in the game against Texas Tech. The best advice when it comes to the Cowboys is to either bet against the Cowboys or pass on them altogether.
