In this Stock Watch article, we take a look at a few college basketball teams that should catch your attention from a handicapping standpoint. This could be a good or a bad thing and in this case, both. Here is one team to bet on and one to avoid this week in college basketball.
On The Rise
Saint Louis Billikens
The Saint Louis Billikens are definitely a team on the rise. They are 18-2 on the season and they are currently in first place in the Atlantic Ten. They have won three of the last four games by double digits and are getting accolades by college basketball experts. They have struggled against the spread however by posting a subpar 7-10 against the spread (ATS) mark to date. That is about to change. It says something when your team’s only losses are to top ten squads like Wichita State and Wisconsin. Perhaps that helped Saint Louis University climb five spots in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 college basketball poll. The 17-2 Billikens are ranked 19th, up from 24th.St. Louis is not going anywhere and will be a top team in college basketball all season long.
On the Decline
Boston College Golden Eagles
The Boston College Golden Eagles are one of the worst teams in college basketball and should be avoided at all costs. They are the doormat of the ACC and have managed to get just five wins on the season. They have lost six out of their last seven and they are a bad bet for anyone that dares to back them. They have posted a miserable 4-13 ATS record on the season, a sure sign they are not even losing close games. BC shot just 36 percent (9 of 25) in the opening half against Georgia Tech, missing eight of its 10 3-point attempts. The Eagles had a tough time getting the ball inside Georgia Tech’s 2-3 zone. This has been the problem all season long for the Eagles. They are inconsistent on offense and have trouble beating the zone against any team. The Eagles are on a downward spiral and should be on team that you bet against and not on. With no hopes of playing in the tournament in March the season is all but over for Boston College.
