The Temple Owls and the Ohio Bobcats fought to the death last year to try to make it to the MAC Championship Game. Both failed. Now, the two meet again in NCAA football betting action on Wednesday night with perhaps the same prize being a trip to the league title game in Detroit.
The Owls were the big time tough luck team last year, going 8-4 and being left out of the bowl season. This year, Head Coach Steve Adazio is hoping to buck that trend no matter the record, and if he can do that, he’ll be a hero in his first year at the helm in the City of Brotherly Love. Temple has a wicked defense and a fantastic running game that maintains the clock like none other. RB Bernard Pierce already has 951 yards and 18 TDs this year, and RB Matt Brown isn’t all that far behind with 562 yards and an average of 6.0 yards per carry. The real key to this team though, is in its ‘D’. Sure, the schedule hasn’t been all that tough, but the Owls rank in the Top 10 in the country in every major defensive category. They’re second in the nation only to the Alabama Crimson Tide in points allowed at just 10.0 per game, and there has only been one game this season in which a team has exceeded 14 points. Five of the eight foes have been held to seven or fewer as well.
Last year, the Bobcats stole the show on the road at Temple, but they ended up coming up just short of the MAC Championship Game when they lost to the Kent State Golden Flashes in the final week of the regular season. Again, the schedule hasn’t been all that impressive, especially since the best teams in the MAC to date have basically been avoided. Still, putting up 451.0 yards per game is impressive no matter what type of a schedule you’re going against, and the Bobcats hope that that offense can carry them to the finish line in this game as well. QB Tyler Tettleton has had an impressive year, throwing for 1,969 yards and 17 TDs against just five picks. He has gotten a lot of help from the electric WR LaVon Brazill, who has 38 receptions for 608 yards and eight scores. Of course, if the pocket breaks down, just as all of the other Ohio quarterbacks have been able to do in recent years, Tettleton can run. He has 229 yards and five scores on the campaign as a rusher, and those five touchdowns match what the rest of the team has on the ground combined.
Temple Owls @ Ohio Bobcats Pick: It’s probably payback time for the Owls. They can smell the conference title game this year in a big time way, and if they can just lock in that defense and keep the ground game picking up first downs, they’ll find a way to take this game by at least a full touchdown. It might be ugly, but Temple will prevail.
