Spread: Eagles -3
There are some massive issues for the Dallas Cowboys that they are going to have to address this week if they want to beat the NFL betting lines on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Cowboys have some major injury issues at this point. DE Demarcus Ware is going to miss at least the next few weeks, while RB DeMarco Murray is going to be out for at least this week. On top of that, DT Jay Ratliff is likely out for the season, while DE Tyrone Crawford and DE Anthony Spencer are already on IR. RB Lance Dunbar sat out last week’s game against the Washington Redskins with a hamstring problem, and if he doesn’t play, this is a horrid situation on two fronts for this team. That’s going to put QB Tony Romo under the gun for sure. Romo has thrown for 1,693 yards and 14 TDs against three picks, but the poor guy is only going to get ripped over and over again for that one pick against the Denver Broncos that cost the team the game. That said, this is a big time game on the road, and these are the types of games that Romo just seems to find a way to lose. He’s going to need four TDs on the board in this one at least to win this game, and it might be more without a running game and a defensive line.
The Eagles have their own issues that they have to deal with. QB Michael Vick is still hurting, but we’re not really all that sure that it matters that much. QB Nick Foles has had two good games in a row, and he is probably the better quarterback for this system that Head Coach Chip Kelly has installed. You don’t need a mobile quarterback to run the read spread option by any stretch of the imagination. Foles has a 127.9 quarterback rating in his four outings, and he has a 6/0 TD/INT ratio. That’s a heck of a lot better than the 5/2 TD/INT ratio that Vick has. It’s clear that Kelly’s offense should be revolved around a quarterback that can take care of the football and not the one with the best mobility. There’s plenty of speed in this offense, including WR DeSean Jackson and RB LeSean McCoy, who have combined for 1,460 yards from scrimmage in just six games this year. To put that in comparison, the whole Jacksonville Jaguars team is averaging 270.2 yards per game. These two men by themselves are averaging 243.3 yards per game.
Philadelphia is the better of these two teams at this point, and we have a feeling that this Dallas defense is going to get run ragged by this offense. These Eagles are definitely on their way, and they’ll run their winning streak to three games on Sunday to take the lead in the NFC East.
