Dallas Mavericks vs. New York Knicks: NBA Free Pick
(32-15, 24-21-2 ATS)
New York Knicks
(25-22, 29-16-2 ATS)
Both the New York Knicks and the Dallas Mavericks have been down in the dumps of late, but both are starting to get a bit of an upswing once again. The two will meet in NBA betting action on Wednesday night on the hallowed floor of Madison Square Garden.
Dallas went on that horrifying stretch of games without Dirk Nowitzki in the lineup, but all of a sudden, it has taken down five straight games and is a respectable 3-2 against the NBA odds in that stretch. Dirk dropped 24 on the Washington Wizards in the Mavs’ most recent win, but for a change, he had a lot of help in getting the job done. Tyson Chandler had a great double-double with 18 points and 18 boards, while Jason Kidd was just one rebound shy of a triple-double. Both Jason Terry and Shawn Marion came off of the bench and scored 14 points apiece. If contributions like that can be had from the rest of the men on the court, the Mavericks are going to be back in the driver’s seat for a spot as the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, though we know they aren’t going to run down the San Antonio Spurs without the men in silver and black falling into a terrible rut. The problem that Dallas has in this one is that this is a horrible scheduling spot. Sure, there were two off days to prepare for this one, but this is the first of a three game road trip, and the last time it went out on the road, it was slaughtered by a ton of teams, albeit without Nowitzki in the fold.
A sprained knee probably won’t keep Amare Stoudemire out of the lineup on Wednesday. The big man in the middle picked up the knock against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, but he should be ready to get back in the fold once again without any problems. It seems like it has been awhile since he has really put a complete game together because he hasn’t had a double-double since January 22nd and hasn’t had a double-double with more than 18 points scored since January 14th, but we still know that the former Phoenix Sun is capable of going for 40 and 20 in a night if given the chance. He is averaging 26.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game on the campaign. Wilson Chandler, the team’s third leading scorer, is averaging 16.8 points per game this year, and he should be back in the fold as well after sitting out one game with a calf injury. Raymond Felton and Danilo Gallinari are combining for over 33 points per game on the campaign to boot.
New York just feels like it should be taking this game down even though we do have to lay a couple points to beat the NBA lines. The Knicks were able to beat the Miami Heat, so this game really shouldn’t be all that difficult, especially if Stoudemire and Chandler are really at 100%.
