The Stanley Cup Playoffs will continue on Thursday in NHL betting action when the Detroit Red Wings play host to the Boston Bruins on Fox Sports Network Detroit at 8:00 p.m. ET on the ice inside Joe Louis Arena. This will be the fourth of a seven game series between these two Eastern Conference foes that Boston leads 2-1 after a win in Game 3.
The Bruins were dominant on both sides of the ice in Game 3 as they shut out the Red Wings 3-0 to get their first series lead. Boston G Tuukka Rask was sensational stopping all 23 shots he saw in his first shutout of the playoffs. Rask is off to a ridiculous start in this series he has a 0.66 GAA and a .975 save percentage in his three starts by far the best of any goalie in the tournament. As the Bruins are riding a hot goaltender they got all the support needed in the first period with goals from Dougie Hamilton and Jordan Coron. Leading point man Patrice Bergeron was given the honors on the empty netter that sealed the victory for his team. Once again it was a good night if you had the ‘under’ as it has cashed in all three games of this series and comfortably so between these two solid defenses. If the Bruins can continue to get their defense playing this well their offense will have no problem helping them take a 3-1 lead in this series on Thursday night.
The Red Wings still have yet to solve the mystery of Rask as they have scored just two goals in 180 minutes of hockey against him. Thursday will serve as really their last chance to figure something out because going down 3-1 isn’t an option for this team. It didn’t help that one of Detroit’s offensive weapons Daniel Alfredsson had to miss Tuesday’s game with an upper body injury and he is still questionable to return for Game 4. In Game 1 the Red Wings used their defense to hold down the Bruins offense in a 1-0 shutout win, but since then the defense has been nowhere to be found. Detroit G Jimmy Howard was perfect in that game, but has struggled in the L/2 games with a 3.50 GAA and a .887 save percentage in those losses. Howard and the defense must figure something out to get a win on Thursday to get this series tied up or it is good as done. One good trend for the Red Wings is they are 4-1 in their L/5 meetings with the Bruins on home ice.
The Bruins have really shown themselves to be back in form after struggling to get anything going in Game 1. When you have a hot goaltender in the playoffs it is quite customary to ride him. We believe with the way Rask is playing right now there is no reason to think the Bruins can lose if they aren’t letting up any goals. Take Boston to grab a commanding series lead behind another solid outing from its net minder. Detroit Red Wings @ Boston Bruins Pick: Boston Bruins
