The Red Wings would still be fighting for the division title in virtually any other division in the league, but thanks to the fact that they are in the Central, where the St. Louis Blues have run away from the field, the only thing that they really have left to play for is home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. That being said, it seems as though Detroit is on a collision course with the Nashville Predators for the first round, and the two teams are deadlocked at 92 points apiece coming into play on Tuesday for the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds in the West. Matters have been awful for the Wings of late, as they have lost five straight games and seven out of eight, and they just aren’t scoring goals at the clip that they are used to. Their power play may as well by a power outage, as the team ranks just No. 22 in the league at 15.8 percent, and an extended woe on the man advantage has dropped this team’s scoring average down to just 3.0 goals per game.
Meanwhile, New York is still fighting for the Presidents’ Trophy. It is just two points back of the Blues for that title, but more importantly is going to be trying to lock down the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Beating out the rest of the division leaders won’t be the difficult part. Instead, the Rangers have to worry about the three teams that are right in their rearview mirror in their own division. That being said, a win over the New Jersey Devils at home on Monday night was absolutely imperative, and it was a huge triumph to make sure that they at least kept a bit of breathing room in their division. For a team that is allowing 2.2 goals per game, the Rangers have been conceding quite a bit of late. The team hasn’t allowed fewer than two goals in a game in the entire month of March, and for the month, it is allowing 3.3 goals per game over the course of 11 games. It should go without saying that this is the reason that New York has struggled so much, as there is just a 5-6 record to show for it.
Detroit Red Wings @ New York Rangers Pick: Still, the Red Wings are the team that really has the least to play for. This is one of the last games on this home stand for the Rangers, and it becomes imperative to hold home ice here at MSG if they want the road to the Stanley Cup Finals to go through the Big Apple.
