Matchup: Anaheim Ducks vs. Detroit Red Wings
Date/Time: May 6th, 8:00 PM ET
Moneyline: Anaheim -125
The road team has won back to back games in the opening round series between the Anaheim Ducks and the Detroit Red Wings. Now, Detroit is going to try to hold serve at Joe Louis Arena on Monday night facing a 2-1 series deficit in this best-of-seven NHL betting showdown.
The Ducks knew that they had every reason in the world to fall flat in Game 3 of this series after losing 5-4 in overtime in Game 2 at the Honda Center. However, instead of feeling sorry for itself, Anaheim went out and outscored the Red Wings 4-0 in a tremendous game at Joe Louis Arena. The Ducks have now scored seven of the last eight goals in this series, and they are doing a remarkable job taking care of business. The game was a particularly big one for G Jonas Hiller, who we are actually amazed was actually the starting net minder. Head Coach Bruce Boudreau knew that he had a lot of pressure that he was under to try to make up his mind with his goaltender. G Viktor Fasth is the man that is waiting in the wings, and we figured that he was going to get the call on Saturday. Instead, Hiller was in net, and it was a remarkable decision. Hiller posted 23 saves and pitched a shutout, and he now clearly will be the man in the pipes for at least the foreseeable future.
Now it’s Detroit that is really in a lot of trouble at the moment. The Red Wings know that they really have to have this game if they are going to stay in this series, because they probably aren’t winning three straight games against the Ducks, two of which will be played at the Honda Center. It was a rare bad game for G Jimmy Howard, who allowed four goals in the game, three of which came in the third period, but he really didn’t get a whole heck of a lot of help along the way. The team only posted 23 shots, only one of which came from LW Henrik Zetterberg and two of which came from C Pavel Datsyuk. LW Justin Abdelkader is likely going to be suspended for this game after delivering a vicious charge that got him kicked out of the game against the Ducks in the second period. That was the penalty that gave Anaheim the goal that started the scoring, and from there, the floodgates opened up.
The Ducks know that there is blood in the water, and the Red Wings are in a lot of trouble and are scrambling. Anaheim is the team to beat, and it shouldn’t be an underdog in this game as we see it. Back the visitors to put the Red Wings into a heck of a lot of trouble on Monday night.
