Duke Blue Devils at Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Date/Time: January 4th, 4:00 p.m. EST
The Duke Blue Devils are one of the best and most recognizable teams in college basketball. Every year they have a team deep in talent that has the potential to win it all. This year is no different as the Blue Devils are the No. 7 ranked team in the college basketball polls and have just two losses on the season. This weekend they have a big challenge as they travel to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The Fighting Irish are a very good basketball team, but they are going through some changes. Notre Dame’s leading scorer, senior guard Jerian Grant, withdrew from school due to academics and redshirting forward Cam Biedscheid announced that he was transferring from the program. This has caused some of the other players to up their game. Senior Eric Atkins scored 30 points and dished out seven assists against Canisius while senior center Garrick Sherman had 17 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season all in the last five games. They will have to increase that output or at least match it when they take on Duke.
The Blue Devils are hitting their stride at the right time. The Blue Devils ended December with five straight wins, all by double digits, including a 38-point rout of Elon on New Year’s Eve. Senior guard Andre Dawkins made five 3-pointers against Elon and is now 11-of-17 from behind the arc over his last two games, and sophomore forward Amile Jefferson notched a career-high 14 rebounds against Eastern Michigan on Dec. 28. This shows just how much talent this team has.
The latest college basketball betting trends reveal that Blue Devils have several wagering angles in their favor. The Blue Devils are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 5 games when playing a team with a winning percentage above .600, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record and they are 4-1 ATS in the last five games overall. The Fighting Irish are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss when they failed to cover the spread for college basketball bettors, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 against the Atlantic Coast conference and 0-4 against the spread in the last four games at home.
The Fighting Irish can keep it close in front of the home crowd, but the Blue Devils are just too tough to go against in this big game. Duke pulls away late and wins big against the Irish.
