San Diego Padres
A four game wraparound MLB betting series concludes on Monday night in the City of Brotherly Love, as the Philadelphia Phillies look to take three out of four games against the San Diego Padres. The Pads stormed back after losing the first two games of this four game series by winning 6-5 in extra innings on Sunday.
LHP Wade LeBlanc may only be 2-4 on the season, but he has really only had one absolutely horrifying start, that coming in a game in which he allowed eight earned runs in three innings of work against the Mariners. However, since May 16th, LeBlanc has gone 0-4 in four starts. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of his nine outings though, which leads us to believe that his 3.67 ERA and .296 batting average against are both numbers that could be improving over time. This is only going to be LeBlanc’s 23rd career start, and it will be the first time that he faces off with the Phillies.
LHP Cole Hamels has now had seven straight starts in which he has allowed three earned runs or less, but no one is happy about his most recent outing, in which he only lasted two thirds of an inning. For the season, the man that was originally Philly’s stopper before RHP Roy Halladay came to town is just 5-4 with a 4.20 ERA. Sixty-four strikeouts in 64.1 innings of work is fantastic for the lefty, and his 35 Ks in 33.2 innings at home this year is even better. However, a 1.46 WHIP needs to be improved. Home has been where the heart is for Hamels, as he is 3-1 with a 2.94 ERA in the City of Brotherly Love in ’10.
Hamels may be hot at home, but this is still a fantastic price on a pitcher that is far beyond his numbers and on a team that no one is still respecting as a legitimate playoff contender. Take the Padres today to get out of Philly with a split.
