ESPN Sunday Night Baseball Betting Preview: Texas Rangers vs. Minnesota Twins

He was in the rotation, then he was out of the rotation, and now he’s back in it again, and LHP Derek Holland is going to try his best to make the most of his opportunity that manager Ron Washington has given to him on Sunday night. The southpaw is 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA this season, but many wonder whether or not he really has the stuff to stick around in an MLB rotation at the age of just 23. Holland’s three starts this year all came in the month of May, but he most recent came back on May 22nd against the Cubs. He allowed two earned runs that day and pitched six relatively strong innings, but his team let him down in a 5-4 defeat. The second year man has made two starts against Minnesota in his career, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA.

RHP Scott Baker hasn’t exactly pitched like an ace this year, and it’s starting to really show up on the stat sheet. The righty is just 4-4 with a 4.48 ERA in ten starts. He’s doing a great job keeping his walks down, issuing just 13 in 60.1 innings of work, which has limited his WHIP to just 1.33 in spite of the fact that batters are hitting .279 against him, 32 points higher than they did in ’09. The Rangers have historically given Baker a ton of trouble. He is 2-2 with a 5.25 ERA in six career starts against them. However, Baker is 3-1 at home this year in five starts, and his only real dud came way back on April 22nd when he allowed six runs in a loss to the Tribe.

This is a very short price for a team that is 18-9 at home with its ace on the mound, and we intend to take full advantage of it. Target Field is going to be a little house of horrors this year for opposing teams, and we fully expect to see Baker pitch well enough to sweep the Rangers out of town tonight.
