An American League East battle will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the New York Yankees travel to face the Baltimore Orioles Sunday night at 8:05 ET on ESPN at Camden Yards. This will be the rubber match of a three game series with an even amount of ‘odds’ on either side.

The Yankees shut out the Orioles 3-0 on Saturday behind some solid pitching and timely hitting to even the series. Pitcher Shane Greene improved to 2-0 in just his second Major League start going 7.1 innings allowing only four hits and the bullpen closed the door from there. First baseman Mark Teixeira had an RBI double and also walked twice as he went 1-for-2 at the plate. Center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury also delivered an RBI double in the win and shortstop Derek Jeter had the only other RBI for New York. Right hander Chase Whitley will get the call for Joe Girardi on Sunday as he comes in with a 4-2 record and a 4.94 ERA in 51.0 innings of work during the first half of the year. Whitley came out of the bullpen in his last appearance to pick up a win allowing just one hit in only 2.0 innings of a 5-4 win over the Cleveland Indians. The right elbow injury to Masahiro Tanaka will force him into this spot start just before the All-Star break begins on Monday.

The Orioles threatened a lot leaving 10 men on base, but couldn’t capitalize on any of those opportunities in the loss. Pitcher Chris Tillman did everything he could to keep his team in the game as he allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out four batters. Right fielder Nick Markakis was the only Baltimore hitter with any success as he went 2-for-4 at the dish, but was stranded both times. Center fielder Adam Jones who leads the team with a .303 batting average didn’t have any hits in four at bats on Saturday. On Sunday it will be right hander Kevin Gausman taking the ball for the O’s as he comes in with a 3.51 ERA in 33.1 innings and a 3-2 record. He was outstanding in his last start going 5.1 innings allowing only one run on four hits as he earned a no decision in a 7-6 win over the Boston Red Sox. The Orioles have been hot of late winning nine of their L/12 games. They would certainly love to secure a series victory over the Yanks with a win in this game.

The Yankees have been very effective with Whitley on the hill going 7-3 in his L/10 starts. Their lineup has also been catching fire lately and that has to spell good things for Girardi’s Bronx Bombers. We like New York to come in and win this series as we head into the break behind a great outing from Whitley. The Yanks are also one of the best road teams in all of baseball with a record of 29-23 coming into Sunday night’s primetime match-up and they will get their 30th victory away from Yankee Stadium at the expense of the Orioles.
