Your Sunday of MLB betting action finishes up with Sunday Night Baseball from Miller Park, as the Philadelphia Phillies look to go for the sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers. The first two games of this series have both belonged to the visitors, as the bats from the City of Brotherly Love have pounded out 19 runs in two days. The Phils are still comfortably on top of the NL East standings, while Milwaukee enters the day 5.5 games behind St. Louis for the top spot in the NL Central with a pair of teams to hop first.
LHP Cole Hamels has led the Phils to a 5-2 record in seven starts this season. He is personally 3-2 with a 4.53 ERA. A 1.53 WHIP and .285 batting average against are both suspect numbers at best for a man that has the ability to be a Cy Young caliber pitcher. Still, striking out 49 batters, an average of exactly 7.0 per start, would leave him on a clip to post a career high in Ks and would inevitably be in the Top 5 in the league in that category. Hamels is only 2-2 in six career starts against the Brew Crew, and his 4.50 ERA against them isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement.
LHP Doug Davis is going to be tabbed with the responsibility of trying to end this dastardly five game losing streak for the Brewers. Unfortunately for the hosts, Davis really hasn’t had a great start this season. In his best outing, he allowed two runs in 6.1 innings of work, but suffered the loss against the Cubs on April 24th. Davis has a 1-4 record and a 7.56 ERA. Opposing batters are hitting .333 against him, which leaves his WHIP at a ridiculously lofty 1.98.
We never like laying this type of lumber on the road in baseball, especially when you’re talking about two teams that are ultimately going to prove to be competent. We know that Milwaukee isn’t as good as Philadelphia is, but the discrepancy isn’t that great. The Brewers will improve on this 4-13 home record at some point, and we’ll take our chances that that some point starts tonight.
