The playoff push continues on Tuesday in NHL betting action when the St. Louis Blues play host to the Philadelphia Flyers on NBC Sports Network at 8:00 p.m. ET on the ice inside the Scottrade Center.
The Flyers have cooled a little since going on a five game winning streak in the middle of March. On Sunday they took the Boston Bruins to the limit in a 4-3 shootout loss. Philadelphia used a goal from Vincent Lecavalier in the final minute to force overtime in thrilling fashion. The catalyst of this Flyers attack has been RW Claude Giroux who has 78 points on 25 goals and 53 assists this season. Giroux has put up 14 points in his L/10 games and the team is 6-3-1 over that stretch. Philadelphia has the No. 11 ranked scoring offense at 2.8 goals per game. The pressure is on this team to perform at its best right now with the Columbus Blue Jackets nipping at its heels in the Metropolitan Division standings. If they want to stay in the playoff picture it will be games like this the Flyers must find a way to win on the road against a tough opponent. Philly has been a pretty solid road team going 16-14-6 away from the city of brotherly love this season.
The Blues have a commanding seven point lead in the Central Division with just a couple weeks to go before the playoffs begin. They had a three game winning streak snapped in their last game as they took a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday. St. Louis LW T.J. Oshie leads the team with 64 points on 21 goals and 39 assists this season. Oshie became famous earlier this year when he led Team USA hockey to a win over Russia where he scored multiple goals in a shootout. He registered a hat trick last Thursday in a 5-1 win over the Minnesota Wild. The Blues have the fourth ranked offense in the league scoring 3.1 goals per game. They really became a harder team to beat when they traded G Jaroslav Halak for G Ryan Miller at the trade deadline. The combination of Miller and back-up G Brian Elliott shut down opposing teams and make the job much easier for their great offensive attack. If this team can keep it together it will have a shot at bringing home the Stanley Cup.
The Blues are going to be a heavy ‘favorite’ in this game as they are 26-6-4 at home this season. If the Flyers could pull out a win in this game they would be the first team not named Dallas Stars to defeat the Blues at home since a February 4th loss to the Ottawa Senators. We like the home team in this one there is no doubt in our mind that St. Louis should take care of business with a high scoring offense and a solid defensive effort.
