Two teams separated by one point in the Metropolitan Division standings on Wednesday in NHL betting action when the New York Rangers play host to the Philadelphia Flyers on NBC Sports Network at 7:30 p.m. ET on the ice inside the world’s most famous venue Madison Square Garden.
The Flyers have been one of the hottest teams in the league of late as they broke through for five consecutive victories going into Monday’s action. That streak came to an end in a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings at home. Philadelphia trailed in that game 2-0 before it got two goals in the third period to tie the score with 11:42 to go, but it then gave up the winning goal shortly thereafter. The offense has been getting it done for the Flyers scoring 3.5 goals per game over the L/6 contests. On the flip side the defense has been no slouch either as they have given up just 1.8 goals per game over that same span. Back on the 18th of this month the Flyers got a huge win over the defending champion Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on the strength of a goal from their leader Claude Giroux that is having a great year. Giroux has scored 74 points this season on 24 goals and 50 assists. If they can keep this run going this team could be a serious contender come playoff time.
The Rangers have also won four of their L/5 games including a four game winning streak coming into this game. On Monday they overcame a 2-0 deficit to the Phoenix Coyotes to come up with a 4-3 win in overtime. It was D Ryan McDonagh that came up with the game-winning goal as he has scored at least one point in each of his L/4 games. New York made a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning for LW Martin St. Louis 11 games ago, but he has yet to contribute a goal to its cause since he came to the big apple. In fact, St. Louis has just three assists to show for his efforts since joining the team. That is a scary thought because this team is playing well without much contribution from its best offensive weapon. If St. Louis can get his game back on track the Rangers will become an even more difficult team to beat on any given night. The offense has been on a tear during the winning streak scoring an average of 4.25 goals per game.
Get ready for a high scoring battle when these two get together on Wednesday night. Back on March 1st the Flyers got a 4-2 win over the Rangers at home behind a strong offensive effort. However, on this night we will choose to roll with the home team as the Rangers desperately need to get things going at Madison Square Garden where they are just 17-16-4 this season. We expect to see them keep scoring a lot of goals and be able to do enough to hang on over a tough group of Flyers. Philadelphia Flyers @ New York Rangers Pick: New York Rangers
