Los Angeles Dodgers
MLB betting action heads to Dodger Stadium as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers duke it out for the second time during this three game series. Last night, RHP Chad Billingsley notched his fifth win of the season for the boys in blue, as he only conceded one run in seven innings of work. RF Reed Johnson led the way offensively for the Dodgers, reaching base in all four of his ABs and scoring a run.
After a woeful 2009 season that saw him go just 6-10, RHP Armando Galarraga has gotten off to a great start in 2010. He first start of the season came six days ago at home against the Red Sox, and he threw a gem, allowing just one run and three hits in 5.2 innings to notch his first win of the year. Galarraga has faced Los Angeles one time in his career, and he can only hope that this start is as successful as that one was. He struck out five batters and allowed just four base runners in seven shutout innings of work to pick up a victory. Stamina is the main issue for the right-hander, as he hasn’t thrown seven full innings of work since July 27th of last year.
At just 24 years old, there is a ton of pressure on the arm of RHP John Ely in the LA rotation. However, this rookie has come out of the minors with guns blazing, as he is 2-1 with a 3.51 ERA. His control has been absolutely impeccable, as he hasn’t walked a batter since allowing three free passes in his first start of the year. Ely has also tossed at least six innings in all four of his starts and hasn’t allowed more than two runs to cross the plate since his first outing of the year. He has also struck out 21 batters in his last 19.2 IPs.
In Ely we trust! The Dodgers’ new right-hander has just looked great this year, and even if he doesn’t get the 8.7 runs of support that he has had handed to him in his L/3 appearances, we still have confidence that he can shut down the Detroit bats today. This is a short price for a team that is playing .667 baseball at home this year, and we’re going to take full advantage of it on Saturday.
