San Francisco Giants
Aces will be wild on Saturday afternoon by the Bay, as the San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros crack skulls in one of the three Fox Saturday Baseball betting battles. The G-Men have been absolutely dominant in this series of late, winning six straight dating back to last year. They also have a sweep in Houston this series, and following yesterday’s 8-2 victory, they now have an aggregate score advantage on the year of 26-10 on the ‘Stros. This will be the second meeting of RHP Roy Oswalt and RHP Tim Lincecum on the mound this year.
Oswalt may only have a 2-4 record this year, but he is pitching like the man that was a Cy Young contender for years before the 2009 season. He has a 2.63 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, and opposing batters are only hitting .225 against him in seven starts. Allowing five home runs is probably a wee much, but 45 strikeouts in 48.0 innings of work is as solid as it comes. Oswalt went a season high eight innings six days ago at home against the Padres, conceding just three runs and striking out nine (also a season high). Houston won 4-3.
There’s not much bad you can say about the season of Lincecum either. He hasn’t conceded more than three runs in any start, and he has struck out at least seven in all of them as well. His 64 strikeouts in 48.1 innings of work equates to an almost comical 11.92, and would put him on a clip to K approximately 310 batters this year. The Giants are 6-1 in their ace’s seven starts this year, but surprisingly, he hasn’t won any of those outings since April 23rd. Lincecum has a 1.86 ERA and opposing batters are hitting a woeful .193 against him.
The only problem that we have with Lincecum is that it feels like you have to lay -250 with him if you want to bet on him every time he steps on the rubber at home. As a result, we’re going to go with an arm that is equally hot right now in Oswalt’s at a huge price and hope that the Houston offense can just squeeze out enough damage against either Lincecum or the San Fran bullpen to leave us smelling like roses.
