Free CFL Betting Picks: BC Lions @ Edmonton Eskimos Preview
The Edmonton Eskimos are starting to fall flat right now in CFL betting action. But can they avoid dropping to one of the worst teams in the league, the BC Lions on Friday night? Check out our free CFL picks for this clash at Commonwealth Stadium.
Just like last year, all isn’t lost for the Lions even though they have started at just 1-6. They have been good enough to win a number of games this season, including some very, very tough fixtures. This is another one of these puzzling games that could come be very, very tricky. Last week’s 30-17 loss against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers finally featured a change that we have been waiting weeks for. At least in that game, QB Travis Lulay came out and was replaced by QB Jarious Jackson. And for good reason! Lulay went just 12-of-23 for 103 yards before getting the hook. Unfortunately though, Jackson wasn’t a whole heck of a lot better, going 6-of-19 for 124 yards with a TD and a pick. The INT was one of the five turnovers on the day for BC. RB Jamel Robertson didn’t suit up in this one, but it did feature the debut of WR Arland Bruce. Bruce caught four passes for 34 yards, but he was one of the most efficient receivers all night long. CFL veterans like Bruce, Geroy Simon, and Kamau Peterson are all in this receiving corps, and Head Coach Wally Buono knows that his offense shouldn’t be struggling to reach 300 yards every single week.
Of course, Edmonton’s once lethal offense looks absolutely lost without its stud, WR Fred Stamps in the fold. Stamps won’t be playing this week either, and that’s bad news for a team that scored just four points in a bad loss at the Montreal Alouettes last week. QB Ricky Ray went 21-of-32 for 245 yards with no scores and no picks, and he only had one pass play for greater than 30 yards on the day, something that Stamps used to provide a slew of. The running game accounted for -1 yard, and the offensive line allowed six sacks. After one quarter, after a 29 yard pass to WR Jason Barnes just before the gun, Edmonton still had -1 yard of offense. It ended the day with 250 yards. Barnes caught six passes for 128 yards, and he is expected to once again be the catalyst for this offense until Stamps is able to get back into the fold.
What we’re finding out here is that Edmonton wasn’t nearly as good as we once though, and its offense is really, really going to struggle without that huge deep threat on the field. BC has been good enough to win games this season, and though we aren’t so sure that it is going to pull off the upset, we do think that it sticks inside this number.
