Free CFL Picks: Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers Week 9 Preview

Free CFL Picks: Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers Week 9 Preview2011 CFL betting action continues this week at Canad Inns Stadium, where the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will put their undefeated ATS mark on the line against their division rivals, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Tabbies are definitely in a position where they need to win this game if they think that they are sticking around in the East Division title race. Winnipeg is already two games in front of them, and the Bombers would hold the tiebreaker by virtue of two wins in this series already if they were to be beaten on Friday night. That being said, the postseason really isn’t out of the question, as there are three games of safety between Hamilton and the rest of the pack behind it for the third playoff spot in the conference. QB Kevin Glenn was probably grateful to get a week off as he tries to figure out his relative new receiving corps. With Arland Bruce traded and Maurice Mann still sidelined, it is up to WRs Chris Williams and Dave Stala to really carry the load. Williams is the team’s leading receiver with 424 yards and three scores, but there isn’t another receiver on the team in the Top 15 of the league. RB Avon Cobourne has disappointed as well, accounting for just an average of 92.1 yards per game between rushing and receiving a year after averaging 100.8 yards per game with the Montreal Alouettes.

If Winnipeg can pick up a win in this one, it will be right on the verge of guaranteeing a coveted playoff spot for the first time in three seasons. The Bombers have five games in the loss column on the Toronto Argonauts and BC Lions, and that’s with only 10 games to play. We just keep continuing to preach about the Blue Bombers’ defense, and we can only hope that the post-bye week team plays as well as the pre-bye week team did. This unit still hasn’t allowed more than 24 points in a game this season after the 30-17 win at Empire Field against the BC Lions two weeks ago. The offense is really starting to pick up the pace as well. Even though RB Fred Reid isn’t anywhere near the CFL’s rushing lead at this point, he and QB Buck Pierce have combined their powers to drop at least 20 points in all seven games this season, something that failed to happen quite a bit last year. The Blue Bombers are also averaging 29.0 points per game in their last four, certainly a fantastic number.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That has to be the feeling right now in Manitoba. Winnipeg is playing too well right now to be stopped by a team that it already obliterated once this season. Don’t be shocked if the Blue Bombers post a big, big double digit victory.
