NCAA Football – Week 4
One of the new sweethearts of the NCAA football betting world, the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks are going to be out for another scalp on Friday night on national television, when they take on the Baylor Bears in a rare home game against a major conference foe.
Just a few weeks ago, this looked like it would be a slam dunk game for the Bears. Now, we’re not all that sure that that’s the case. Remember that Baylor struggled last week against the Sam Houston State Bearkats, falling behind 20-10 at halftime before turning on the jets and coasting to a second half victory. The offensive numbers this year for Baylor thus far do look a bit like they did when QB Robert Griffin III was still quarterbacking this team, but no one is fooled; this isn’t nearly the same team that it was last year at this time. QB Nick Florence has thrown for 653 yards and seven TDs in two games, and he also has 104 yards on the ground. RB Jarred Salubi has 174 yards as a rusher, and RB Glasco Martin will also be in on the act, as he has 19 carries for 84 yards and two scores. WR Terrance Williams has taken over for WR Kendall Wright as the top receiver on the club, and he has 13 receptions for 269 yards and two trips to the end zone.
The Warhawks have been outstanding this year, and they are only just shy of being a 2-0 team with both wins coming against teams from the SEC West. In the first of the two weeks, ULM was able to set down the Arkansas Razorbacks in overtime, and this past week, the Auburn Tigers only just barely survived in overtime due to the fact that the Warhawks just don’t have a kicker. The kicking game really has the potential to bury this team, as no kicker on the team has made more than 40% of his field goals for his career. Still, QB Kolton Browning has been a stud in every sense of the word. He has put 62 points on the board against two SEC teams, and he has thrown for 649 yards and six TDs and has another 127 yards and two scores on the ground. In fact, there has only been one touchdown this year that didn’t either come off of the arm or off of the legs of Browning.
College Football Pick:
Many are going to jump right on the ULM bandwagon in this one, but we think that the better play if you’re going to do that is to play the ‘over’. The Warhawks really haven’t shown all that much defensively this year, and this is going to be a tougher challenge than either of the first two games of the year. Baylor knows that this is a very, very dangerous game on the road against a Sun Belt team that rarely has such high profile foes. Florence will come out swing as well. The Bears will survive, but the better play is on the ‘over’. Baylor 44 – Louisiana Monroe 40
