An American League Central match-up will be featured in Major League Baseball betting action when the Detroit Tigers travel to face the Chicago White Sox Tuesday night at 8:15 ET at US Cellular Field on FSN Detroit. This will be the second in a four game series between these two AL rivals.
The Tigers played well offensively on Monday night, but fell short in a 6-5 loss to the White Sox. Designated hitter Miguel Cabrera had a solid outing going 2-for-4 at the plate as he homered for the 12th time this season. Cabrera finished the game with an RBI and two runs scored while his teammate first baseman Victor Martinez also went deep in the loss. Pitcher Rick Porcello fell to 8-4 as he went 5.0 innings giving up five earned runs on nine hits. Right hander Justin Verlander will head to the mound for Detroit as he comes in with a 6-5 record and an astronomical 4.19 ERA this season. Verlander was torched in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays as he gave up six runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings of a 7-3 loss. The Tigers are just 2-8 in their L/10 games as ‘favorites’ and will be trying to reverse that trend in this game. Detroit has the No. 7 offensive lineup in baseball as it scores 4.50 runs per contest. Facing left handed pitching hasn’t been a problem for this team as it has a .265 batting average.
The White Sox got the win on Monday behind a great night from first baseman Jose Abreu who went 2-of-4 at the dish nailing his 18th homer of the year. Third baseman Conor Gillaspie was also 2-for-4 and he had two RBI’s in the win. Pitcher Hector Noesi improved to 2-4 on the year as he gave up four runs on seven hits while registering five strikeouts. On Tuesday night lefty John Danks will get the start for Chicago as he comes in with a 4-5 record and a 4.32 ERA in 75.0 innings of work. Danks threw a two-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last outing giving up just one run as he got the 2-1 win. Games like this one are critical for the White Sox as they try to stay in the AL Central race with wins against the Tigers who they trail by 3.5 in the standings. Chicago is 18-14 at home this season, but it has struggled defensively giving up 4.34 runs per game overall.
The Tigers haven’t lost back-to-back games in the same season to the Sox in a long time and that stat is definitely in their favor. Verlander has had his problems this season, but Detroit is 14-3 in his L/17 starts against Chicago. At 17-12 on the road the Tigers are one of the best road teams in the league and we expect them to get things going back in the right direction on Tuesday with a big win in the Windy City.
