The Nuggets have to have some confidence right now that they can somehow finish this series off, knowing that they were able to take two straight and three out of four against these Lakers. Denver has really fought hard offensively, and it has been a nice, well balanced effort that has gotten the job done. Ty Lawson has clearly been the star of stars, scoring 18.2 points per game in this series, but in the end, there are eight players that are good for at least 7.3 points per game. The bigs like Kenneth Faried and JaVale McGee are both holding their own in the paint, and it is making life a living hell against an LA team that is used to dominating on the glass. Limiting turnovers is really helping as well, as there isn’t a player on the team that is averaging more than 2.0 turnovers per game in this series. That’s the type of thing that Denver is going to have to do in order to stay alive in the playoffs, and it could be a shocking result at the end of the night if that turns out to be the case.
And the pressure continues to mount on the Lakers… It really appeared as though this series would be over in five games just a few days ago, but all of a sudden, a poor effort down the stretch in Game 5 and a terrible display of self-destruction in Game 6, and LA is just one more slip up away from being bounced out of the playoffs in the first round. It would surely be the end for Head Coach Mike Brown, one would figure, as the boys in purple and gold just aren’t going to put up with first round eliminations from the postseason. Kobe Bryant has been battling the flu, but it is the rest of his teammates that have truly looked sick out there. In the Game 6 loss, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol combined to shoot just 5-of-21 from the floor, and the team went -29 with Gasol and -22 with Bynum on the court. The two had just 14 points between them, and Bynum had 16 of the 19 boards that they had between them. The good news is that Metta World Peace is going to be back in the fray for this one after his nearly three-week suspension, and he should really help out a team that has had some major flaws in this series.
Denver Nuggets @ Los Angeles Lakers Pick: Have we seen the Lakers totally check out of this series? We’re really starting to wonder. We saw the same thing last year against the Dallas Mavericks, and the same might be true here. Either way, we really want those points on our side, as the only way that LA gets through this might be Kobe winning the game in the clutch.
