The New York Giants are still going in search of their first win of the season. They’re going to try to beat the NFL betting lines against the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football this week.
The Giants are a disaster right now. They have turned the ball over 20 times in five games, and they are on a pace to break all sorts of dubious records along the way. QB Eli Manning has a dozen picks, and he knows that he has to be a heck of a lot better if this team is going to get out of it. The truth of the matter is that the team is only two games back in the NFC East, but with the schedule that is ahead, it is going to be really tough to get going again. Manning really needs the help of his ground game as well. It’s not surprising that this unit is the worst in the league, especially with the lousy offensive line that is in front of it. RB Brandon Jacobs is the only totally healthy back that the team has right now, and that has caused Head Coach Tom Coughlin to have to bring back RB Da’Rel Scott a week after cutting him, simply to have enough warm bodies to get through the game.
Head Coach Marc Trestman had this team on fire to start off the season, but over the course of the last few weeks, the former Canadian Football standout coach has watched his team flounder. Yes, the offense put up 32 points in the loss to the Detroit Lions, but anyone that watched that game knows that a lot of those points came after the game was already out of reach, and the offense has really had back to back bad games. The defense and the special teams have set up a tremendous number of touchdowns this year either directly or indirectly, and that is helping matters out as well. Remember that this is a primetime game for QB Jay Cutler, and he routine plays poorly when the lights are turned on and the whole nation is watching. He has more picks than games on TNF and the rest of the primetime games, and if he turns the ball over to the Giants, that might awaken a team that has been waiting to catch a break all season long.
We get the feeling that New York isn’t out of it yet, and Coughlin has to be preaching that to his team. If the Giants can just a break here or a break there, they can at least stick in front of this number, if not beat it to win this game SU.
