Total Line: 46
The Giants’ four-game winning streak came to an abrupt end this past Sunday with a last second 24-21 loss to Dallas as 2.5-point home favorites. The loss dropped them to 4-7 straight-up on the year and put a serious dent in their NFC East title hopes after bouncing back from a woeful 0-6 start. New York is also 4-7 against the spread and the total has stayed UNDER in three of their last five games.
You cannot pin last Sunday’s loss on turnovers as was the case earlier in the season. Through New York’s first six games it had a league-worst turnover ratio of minus16, but over its last five games that trend has completely reversed itself with a ratio of plus five. What is still missing from this team is the big-play offense led by Eli Manning. This unit has improved dramatically along with the defense as the season has worn on, but it is still searching for the big plays that have helped win games in the past.
Washington is a team on the verge of completely imploding after getting hammered by San Francisco 27-6 this past Monday night as a 5.5-point home underdog. The Redskins’ run to the division title last season with a mark of 10-6 is just a fading memory after Monday’s loss dropped them to 3-8 both SU and ATS. The total has now stayed UNDER in their last two games after going OVER in their previous four contests.
Robert Griffin III has taken a major step backwards after a stellar rookie campaign. While he has thrown for 2,832 yards and 14 touchdowns, he now has 11 interceptions and a completion rate that has fallen below 60 percent. The other major issue with this team is a defense that is ranked 28th in the league in yards allowed (382.1) and 31st in points allowed (30.7).
Free NFL Pick
I do not make a habit of making bold statements when it comes to my free NFL picks, but this is a perfect opportunity to go big on the Giants in a game that is listed as a pick. Washington could have a hard time winning again this season starting with a fourth-straight loss this Sunday.
New York 27 Washington 17
