Have the Presidents’ Trophy winners simply had it? The Canucks have been one of the two most disappointing teams in the playoffs this year, joining the Pittsburgh Penguins, who also could be swept out of the postseason on Wednesday night. The team has lost all three games in this series, and the argument could be made that it has been outplayed in all three as well. That’s all fine and dandy, but it shouldn’t be happening against a team that is the No. 8 seed in the West. The real question is whether it will be Roberto Luongo or Cory Schneider in net for the Canucks. All signs point to Schneider, who really did play better in Game 3, allowing just the one goal in the 1-0 loss, than Luongo has for the rest of this series. It is clear that the team is ready to turn the goaltending position over to Schneider after his long wait on Luongo to fall, and with the veteran still failing in the playoffs over the course of his career, the permanent switch could be an easy one to justify. Daniel Sedin is expected to be back in the fold for this one after missing basically the last two months, but it might not make a difference.
The Kings have never taken a 3-0 series lead before in franchise history, and that makes this a situation where they are in uncharted waters for sure. That being said, this is probably also the best LA team that we have seen since Wayne Gretzky was in the prime of his career. Jonathan Quick has been the man in the pipes, and he has allowed just four goals in three games. He had a great season and should be a Vezina Trophy finalist, and it is clear that his team is starting to finally give him some offensive support after lacking over the course of the whole regular season. The nine goals scored in three games should be more than enough, and it has proven to do just that. Quick is playing with supreme confidence right now, and it would be awfully difficult to see how the Canucks are going to beat him more than maybe once or twice over the course of a 60 minute stretch at this point, if they could score at all.
Vancouver Canucks @ Los Angeles Kings Pick: See ya, Vancouver. The Canucks just never lived up to their billing as one of the top teams in the league, and they never have here in the playoffs. It is time for a shakeup in British Columbia, and getting swept out of the playoffs is probably just what the doctor ordered if this team is ever going to capture Lord Stanley’s Cup. Back the Kings as short favorites to finish this series on Wednesday night.
