NCAA Basketball Pick – March 10th
Two of the Top 10 teams in the land are going to meet in a pivotal battle on the college basketball odds on Sunday, the final day of the NCAA hoops regular season, as the Michigan Wolverines host the Indiana Hoosiers.
Is Indiana’s No. 1 seed in any danger right now? The thought is that it could be after losing at home to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Senior Night on Tuesday. Win this one, and order will surely be restored, but lose this one, and it is probably going to take winning the Big Ten Tournament to ensure that spot on the top line. As we know, it’s not going to be easy to get through Indianapolis this year, as there are some tremendous teams in the Big Ten. When you look at the whole scheme of things, it’s tough to dog on the Hoosiers for their one lousy performance. That was the first time since January 20th they didn’t score at least 72 points in a game, and it was a rare defensive showing that wasn’t up to par with what we have come to expect. There is no reason to think that there won’t be at least 70 put up in this one, just as there was when these two teams met at Assembly Hall back on February 2nd.
The question here is whether Michigan is going to get itself on the top line by winning this game. We don’t think so, but we do think that it would be in a position to pull off the feat by winning the Big Ten Tournament as well. The Wolverines slumped for just a bit there in February, losing games to the Hoosiers, Wisconsin Badgers, Michigan State Spartans, and Penn State Nittany Lions. The last loss was the one that was really damning, as the Lions hadn’t won a Big Ten game at the time in over a year. Since then, the team has won two games in a row, but the outcomes haven’t been spectacular. Beating the Purdue Boilermakers by five is nothing to write home about, and if not for a bad turnover by G Keith Appling in the dying seconds, the Spartans would have picked up the series sweep of Big Blue.
Here’s the question in our minds: Is F Glenn Robinson III going to show up and play a great game, or is he largely going to be hidden behind the great Michigan guards? If Robinson is going to come out and scoring two points and shoot 1-of-6 from the floor as he did when these two teams met the first time, this is going to be Indiana’s game. Unfortunately, there isn’t much here to suggest that he is going to come out of nowhere and impress. Take the Hoosiers in this big one. Indiana 79 – Michigan 74
