The Indiana Pacers stunned New York with a 102-95 victory in Game 1 of this series as five-point underdogs on the road and now they are in prime position to close this series out in five games. Indiana extended its lead to 3-1 with a rock-solid 93-82 victory as a five-point favorite in Tuesday night’s Game 4 as once again the NY Knicks had no answer for its stifling defense.
George Hill came up huge in Tuesday’s win with a game-high 26 points while going 9-for-14 from the field. Paul George has led Indiana is scoring in the playoffs with an average of 18.3 points and Roy Hibbert has chipped-in another 13.8 point a game, but these two players biggest contribution has been under the boards with a combined 18.4 rebounds a game. The Pacers completely dominated the boards in Game 4 by outrebounding New York 54-36.
Despite the fact that the Knicks’ current game plan of standing around the court while Carmelo Anthony shoots the ball has helped put them in this 3-1 hole, you can probably expect more of the same on Thursday night. In the only game that New York won in this series he shot 50 percent from the field while scoring 34 points. Unfortunately for Knicks’ fans, Anthony has shot just 39.7 percent over the course of 10 playoff games. Tuesday night he led his team with 24 points but connected on 9-of-23 shots from the field and 2-of-6 attempts from three-point range.
The other problem that the Knicks have in this series is the inability to match Indiana’s physical presence in the paint. The Pacers only shot 40.8 percent from the field in Game 4, but they continued to create a number of second chances by banging the boards on both ends of the court. Just because this game will be played in Madison Square Garden I do not expect that issue to change.

You cannot keep doing the same things and expect different results so unless the Knicks start to move the ball around the court their only hope to extend this series past Thursday night is for Anthony to get incredibly hot. Given his track record in the postseason so far that is a scary proposition to wager on. Even if he does score 30 or 40 points it will not be enough as Indiana has New York’s number down pat in this matchup.
