Point Spread: Michigan State -12.5
The Michigan State Spartans did suffer their only loss of the season at home, but they are still looking to continue one of the most stellar runs in college hoops betting action this year when they take on the Indiana Hoosiers on Tuesday night at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center.
The Hoosiers are overmatched in this game, and they have to know it. There have been some results that make you raise an eyebrow and wonder how well this one is really going to go for Head Coach Tom Crean and the gang. Not only was Indiana just beaten at home by the Northwestern Wildcats, arguably the worst team in the Big Ten this year, but it was also clocked by 17 when these same two teams met at Assembly Hall earlier this year. We just haven’t seen any real improvement, though we do think that the win at home over the Wisconsin Badgers was a notable one for sure. The Hoosiers seem to be NIT-bound this year if they can’t figure out how to get some things going defensively in these big games. They have allowed at least 72 points in four of their five games in conference, and in the one game against Northwestern, the offense only scored 47, which wasn’t nearly good enough to get the job done.
And then there is Michigan State, which has covered three straight games on the college basketball odds and eight out of nine, with the one loss coming by just a point against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Sure, the team had no business covering against these Minnesota Golden Gophers in its last home game, and there really has yet to be a dominating home game this season against a conference foe, but the end results are the end results, and these last two games against Northwestern and the Illinois Fighting Illini have been dominating. Even with C Adreian Payne still dealing with a foot injury, there is little doubt that this is one of the best teams in America. G Gary Harris is a heck of a sharpshooter, and he is coming off of a 23-point game against the Illini. G Keith Appling is a great distributor of the basketball, and though the men on the inside are probably just a bit weak with Payne out, the Hoosiers don’t have the players to make up for it.
Here’s a case of the oddsmakers putting a line up based upon the name of the team instead of the quality of the team. Though Indiana had been excellent these last few seasons, we just don’t see it this year. Getting blown out by the Spartans at home wasn’t an accident, and we have no doubt that this is going to be another one of these games which ends in a big disappointment for the Hoosiers, who will get dominated in the backcourt and lose this game by at least 15.
