NFL Football Betting Preview
Indianapolis Colts (13-0) at Jacksonville Jaguars (7-6)
Thursday December 17th, 8:30PM Eastern
Betus.com betting line – Colts -3, 42 ½ O/U
The Indianapolis Colts were impressive yet again last week as they took down the Broncos 28-16 to move to the 13-0 mark on the season. For some reason, the undefeated season talk has been rather quiet for a team that has the chance to accomplish such a feat. However, the Colts have a great chance to end the season with an unblemished record and make a lot of noise in the playoffs.
The hardest game remaining on their schedule will be a trip to Jacksonville this Thursday night against the Jaguars that currently hold one of the wildcard positions if the season ended today. If the Colts can find away to beat the Jaguars, they could have rather smooth sailing from here on out. However, Jacksonville gave the Colts one of their biggest challenges of the year in the opener in a game that was decided by just two points and we expect another great game this Thursday night as the Jaguars really can not afford to give up any ground in the playoff race.
Colts QB Peyton Manning has cooled off a bit from his tremendous start to the year. In fact, Manning had one of his worse performances of the year last week completing just 47% of his passes for 220 yards with a season high 3 interceptions. Of course Manning is the most important element to the Indianapolis offense thanks to their non-existent running game and they need him to play well. WR Reggie Wayne and TE Dallas Clark must find ways to get open because the offense does not need running back Joseph Addai to lead the receiving statistics again this week with just 49 yards against the Broncos. However, do not be surprised if Addai gets another solid work load as he carried the ball on the ground well last week. However, the best area to attack the Jaguars defense will be in the secondary to place a bit more emphasis on the importance of a solid outing by Manning.
Betus.com has the current betting line favoring the Colts by 3 points, but that has been downsized from the 4 point advantage the Colts were getting when the lines opened. The over/under total has not had a lot of movement opening at 43 and currently holding steady at 42 ½. Also if you have some intentions to betting on the moneyline Indianapolis is receiving -150 odds while the Jaguars are standing at a profitable +130.
Jacksonville was held to just 10 points in a defensive battle to the Dolphins which set their momentum back after having won 4 of the last 5 prior to last week’s loss. QB David Garrard was held to his second lowest passing performance of the year hitting just 11 of 26 for 139 yards. Also, tailback Maurice Jones-Drew was held to just 59 yards on 18 carries and he has really been the biggest difference in the Jaguars success this season compared to last. The Jaguars had a good chance to beat the Colts in their last meeting, but that was in help to a big defensive effort rather than help from the offense. In that meeting, the defense forced a few turnovers and Jones-Drew had a lot of success on the ground to keep the Colts offense off the field. That will again be the key to their success Thursday night. However, the big swinger will be if Garrard is able to make some plays down the field. If that happens, it will allow Jones-Drew more room to run but that is only if Garrard throws the ball well.
Pick – Jacksonville is just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games at home and Manning should bounce back for a strong performance which does not bode well for the Jaguars. Take the Colts -3
