The Kansas Jayhawks went through an unheard of three-game losing streak recently, but they have rebounded with two big wins at home. They’ll have to go to Gallagher-Iba Arena and try to beat a very talented young Oklahoma State team on Wednesday night. Oklahoma State has won seven straight games, and they are now 19-5 on the year. The oddsmakers expect a very close one here. Kansas was beaten on their home floor by the Cowboys earlier this year, so they’ll be looking for revenge in this one.

Game Overview:

Kansas has been near the top of the rankings all year, and the Jayhawks are definitely a team that will be tough to take down in March. With Jeff Withey at the back of the defense, the Jayhawks are among the best in the nation defensively. Kansas is holding opponents to just 35.6 percent shooting from the floor, which is the single best mark of any team in the country. There isn’t a better shot blocker than Withey, and he alters so many shots that his contribution to the team can never be overstated. The Jayhawks ability to defend keeps them in every single game.

Ben McClemore and Travis Releford have both been amazing on the offensive end for Kansas this year. McClemore leads the team in scoring with 16.7 points per game, and he is arguably the best freshman in the country this year. Releford is shooting 60 percent from the floor, and he is knocking down 46 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. Elijah Johnson has struggled with his shot all year. Kansas averages 73.4 points per game.

Oklahoma State is a very young team, but there aren’t many teams in the nation that can match their talent. Marcus Smart is right up there with McClemore as one of the best freshmen in the nation. Smart averages 15 points per game, and he leads the team in assists. Sophomore Le’Bryan Nash is capable of carrying the load on offense at any point, and he averages 13.3 points per game. Junior Markel Brown serves as the team’s veteran leader, and he leads the team in scoring with 15.5 points per game. Oklahoma State has four guards who average at least 11 points per game.

The problem for the Cowboys is they really don’t have any strong low post players. Oklahoma State struggles against good frontcourt’s. The Cowboys have improved a great deal on the defensive end this year. Oklahoma State no longer has to simply outscore opponents to win games. They are allowing opponents to shoot only 39.2 percent from the floor this year. This team’s athleticism and length around the perimeter makes them a tough team to get open looks against unless you can force the ball inside.

Free Pick: Oklahoma State -1.5

Kansas hasn’t been good on the road of late, and the Cowboys are much better than many people realize. Beating Kansas a second time in the season won’t be easy, but I think they get it done.
