Game Overview

The Knicks finished the 2012/2013 with the second-best record in the Eastern Conference at 54-28, but their season ended on a disappointing note with a loss to Indiana in the conference semifinals in six games. They kicked off a new season on a strong note this past Wednesday night with a 90-85 victory over Milwaukee but they could not cover as 7.5-point home favorites. The total stayed UNDER the 196.5-point closing line.

Carmelo Anthony led New York with 19 points while hitting 7-of-16 from the field and going 0-for-2 from three-point range. He also led the way in rebounds with 10. Raymond Felton added 18 points and Iman Shumpert was the third leading scorer with 16 points. The Knicks as a team shot a solid 50.7 percent from the floor but they hit just 23.1 percent of their shots from beyond the arc.

Chicago opened its season on Tuesday night with a 107-95 loss to the defending champion Miami Heat as a five-point underdog on the road. After keeping the first quarter a two-point game, the Bulls were outscored 37-18 in the second quarter and were never able to close the gap. The total in this contest went OVER the 188.5-point line.

Former league MVP Derrick Rose was sidelined last season while recovering from knee surgery, so the anticipation of his return to the starting lineup for this season opener was running high. Unfortunately the rust from the extended layoff was evident in Tuesday’s loss. Rose shot just 4-for-15 from the field and went 1-for-7 from three-point range. He finished the night with just 12 points, one rebound and four assists. Carlos Boozer led all scorers in this game with 31 points and Joakim Noah was the Bulls’ leading rebounder with 11.

Free NBA Pick

Whether it was rust or just an off night, look for a much better effort from Rose in the Bulls’ home opener on Thursday night. The Knicks looked good against the Bucks, but the early fatigue from playing back-to-back nights along with the energy from the home-town crowd in Chicago will be too much to overcome as 8.5-point underdogs on the road.

Chicago 94       New York 85
