The New York Knicks were one of the hottest teams in the NBA until they ran into the Charlotte Bobcats.  The Knicks had a five game winning streak come to a halt as they were looking ahead to the big game on tap for Thursday night. The Knicks now travel to play the Indiana Pacers, who many consider the best team in the Eastern Conference.

Game Overview:

The Knicks always find a way to get in the middle of a bunch of drama. After the loss against the Bobcats the drama took center stage once again. J.R. Smith once again was not put into the game by Mike Woodson Tuesday vs. the Bobcats. Smith’s benching came after he was warned by the NBA not to untie anyone else’s shoelaces again at the free throw line, then he went and did it again, prompting a fine from the league. He missed the Knicks’ win over the Heat, then returned and played well vs. the Sixers and Suns in wins for New York. This is beginning to become a big problem for the Knicks and if they have any aspirations of making the playoffs, they need to get this straightened out.

Meanwhile the Pacers keep doing what they have been doing all season long, winning. Pacers forward Paul George scored a team-high 31 points on 10 of 18 shooting in the game against the Kings and is ready to lead the Pacers on a championship run. However, he managed just three rebounds after racking up 26 rebounds over the last two games. He gets plenty of help from other big players on his team most notably David West.

The latest basketball betting trends reveal that the Knicks have some wagering angles in their favor for this prime time game. The Knicks are 16-5 against the spread (ATS) in their last 21 Thursday games, 7-1 ATS in their last 8 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Pacers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games when playing against an opponent from the Eastern Conference and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games.

The New York Knicks are not as good as the Indiana Pacers, but they have the potential to give them a tight game on Thursday night. The Knicks did not give it their all against the Bobcats and will be well rested and ready to go. If they want any credibility as a legitimate playoff team they will have to play tough against teams like the Pacers.
