Money Line: Los Angeles (-145) Colorado (+135)
Total Line: 8.5
Los Angeles has been able to overcome an unexpected slow start to climb within four games of Arizona in the NL West title race. It has gone 8-2 in its last 10 games and is now 38-43 overall. After going 6-1 in a recent seven-game home stand, the Dodgers venture back out on the road where they are just 13-22 this season. The total has gone OVER in four of their last six games.
Pitching has not been an issue this season with a team ERA of 3.81 that is ranked sixth in the National League. Unfortunately, scoring has been one with an average of 3.6 runs a game. The Dodgers’ bats are finally starting to find their form with an average of 4.3 runs in their last nine games. Los Angeles will have its ace Clayton Kershaw on the mound this Tuesday night. The left-hander is 6-5 on the year with a 2.08 ERA. He is 7-4 lifetime against Colorado with an ERA of 3.82.
The Rockies have been in the thick of the NL West race all season long and despite posting a 2-4 record in their last six games, they are just two games in back of Arizona in the division at 41-42. Colorado has played well at home this season with a record of 25-19 and the total has stayed UNDER in their last five games.
Colorado is ranked 12th in the NL in pitching with a team ERA of 4.10, but so far its bats have been able to outpace this weakness with 4.7 runs a game. This production has dropped off dramatically over the last 10 games with four or less runs in eight of those contests. Look for Roy Oswalt to take the mound for the Rockies in this series opener. Since joining the team last month, the veteran right-hander has allowed nine earned runs on 18 hits in 11 innings of work to get off to a 0-2 start. Against the Dodgers over the course of his career, Oswalt is 8-4 with a 3.08 ERA.

The combination of the Dodgers’ current form at the plate with Kershaw on the mound will be tough to beat especially since Los Angeles is 9-3 in his last 12 starts against Colorado. Stick with the road team to grab the early edge in this series with a win on Tuesday night.
Los Angeles 5 Colorado 3
