The Dodgers’ head into Monday night’s game off a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia as 105 road underdog, but they remain the hottest team in the Majors with a 10-1 record in their last 11 games. This team has been on an incredible winning run since late June and has now opened a 7.5-game lead over Arizona in the NL West with an overall record of 72-51. LA comes into this four-game road trip with a National League-best 35-26 record away from home this season. The total has stayed UNDER in four of its last six games.
Everything has been working for the Dodgers over the past two months with a lineup that is pounding-out an average of 4.1 runs a game complementing a pitching staff that is ranked third in the NL with a team ERA of 3.25. Los Angeles will go with Hyun-Jin Ryu as its starter for this series opener. The rookie left-hander is 12-3 on the year with a 2.91 ERA. He has allowed a total of four earned runs in his last four outings.
Miami dropped two of three games this past weekend at home against San Francisco to fall to 4-6 in its last 10 games. It continues to languish through a miserable season and remains the worst team in the NL at 47-75 on the year. The Marlins are now 27-34 at home and the total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in six of their last seven games.
This lineup belted-out a total of 19 runs in its last three games after scoring fewer than four runs in nine of its previous 11 outings. Overall, Miami is averaging 3.3 runs a game which is the lowest total in the NL. Its pitching has been somewhat better with a 3.77 team ERA. The Marlins will send Jose Fernandez to the mound as their starter for Monday night. The right-hander is 8-5 this season with an ERA of 2.45 in his first full season in the Majors.
Free MLB Pick
Both teams will have a quality young arm on the mound in this matchup, but you have to stick with the Dodgers as the free MLB pick. They have not lost back-to-back games since June 21 and are not about to break that run against Miami.
Los Angeles 4 Miami 2
