The good news out of Los Angeles this week is that Kobe Bryant’s current contract has been extended two more seasons which should make him a Laker for life. Unfortunately that will not help for Tuesday night as he remains out of the lineup while rehabbing his foot. In his absence, his team has gone an even 7-7 straight-up in its first 14 games and a profitable 9-5 against the spread. The total has gone an even 7-7 as well but it has stayed UNDER in three of their last four games.
The Lakers have tried to fill Bryant’s void by spreading the ball around. Heading into this game they have five different players scoring in double figures led by Pau Gasol’s 14.3 points a night. Jody Meeks and Nick Young are each averaging over 13 points and the team as a whole is scoring 99.6 points a game. It is shooting 43.4 percent from the field and a solid 40.3 percent from three-point range.
Washington has shown signs of improvement with a 5-8 SU start that has it tied with Detroit for the eighth-best record in the Eastern Conference. The Wizards beat New York 98-89 this past Saturday as 1.5-point home favorites to improve to 7-6 ATS. The total has now stayed UNDER in their last four games. They come into this game with an offense that is ranked 16th in the NBA in scoring with an average of 99.1 points a game and defensively they are holding opponents to 101.3 points on the other end of the court.
Wizards’ fans have to be encouraged with the play of Bradley Beal and John Wall as two cornerstones of the franchise. Beal leads the team in scoring with 20.6 points a game while adding 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Wall is a close second with 18.6 points a night to go along with 4.5 rebounds and a team-high 8.9 assists. Washington has six different players scoring in double figures and it is shooting 43.7 percent from the floor and 39.3 percent from beyond the arc.

These two teams matchup very well against one another with a good dose of youthful talent in both lineups. In a game as close as this, I am giving the slight edge to an East Coast team playing at home against a West Coast travelling all the way across the country.
