LSU is very quietly positioning itself for a run at Alabama for the SEC West Division title and possible berth in the national title game. It is off to a 4-0 straight-up start (2-2 against the spread) with victories over TCU and Auburn as part of its early season resume. The total has gone OVER in all four of the Tigers’ games this season behind an offense that is averaging 43.3 points a game.
There has been some solid balance between a passing game that is averaging 259.3 yards a game complementing a rushing attack that is piling-up an average of 220.8 yards a game. Zach Mettenberger has already thrown for 1,026 yards and 10 touchdowns while Jeremy Hill and Terrence Magee have combined for 569 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
Georgia came up short in its first big game of the year with a 38-35 loss to No. 3 Clemson on opening day as a 1.5-point road favorite. It rebounded with a crucial 41-30 victory over No. 12 South Carolina on Sept.7 as a three-point favorite at home. The total has gone OVER in all three of its games this year.
The Bulldogs are ranked ninth in the nation in passing with an average of 360.7 yards a game. Aaron Murray has led the way with 1,040 passing yards and seven touchdown throws while completing an impressive 72 percent of his attempts. The main weapon in a running game that is averaging 213.3 yards a game has been Todd Gurley. He has rushed for 377 yards on 63 carries including four for touchdowns. The one area of concern for the Bulldogs this season has been a defense that has been torched for an average of 29.7 points a game. This game will be a huge test against a Tigers’ offensive squad that can beat you in so many ways.
The road team has won the last three meetings both SU and ATS and the total has gone OVER in five of the last six games. Both teams come into this showdown with impressive stats on offense, but the difference in this game is going to come down to LSU’s defense outplaying the Bulldogs’ defense. It should be a good one, but the free pick in this one is the Tigers on the road in a SU win.
