Earlier this year, the Florida State Seminoles absolutely destroyed the North Carolina Tar Heels. Now, the two are going to meet on Sunday with the ACC Championship on the line.
Give Florida State all the credit in the world for the way that it has played this year. This is a team that has more or less been lurking around in the middle of the ACC for quite some time, and now, it is truly one of the elite teams in the conference. A win in this game could conceivably move the Noles up to a No. 2 seed, though we tend to think that they would finish a shade below that when push comes to shove. Michael Snaer has become a true assassin for the garnet and gold. He has hit some of the biggest shots in the season for the Seminoles, and he is coming off of a 16 point game against the Duke Blue Devils, the second victory against the Dookies this year. Defensively, this is still a team that can really shut down anybody. Just ask Duke, which scored just 59 points in the ACC semifinals on Saturday. Teams are still only shooting 38.0 percent from the field against this very athletic squad.
Carolina is coming off of a very odd win against the NC State Wolfpack. The team didn’t have John Henson in the lineup with a wrist injury, and odds have it, he won’t be in this one either. Harrison Barnes only shot 3-for-12 from the field, an Reggie Bullock went just 2-of-7. That being said, the team still fended off an NC State team that really could have used the victory to ensure that it would be in the NCAA Tournament. That being said, you know that Head Coach Roy Williams is going to be showing his team the tape from that wicked defeat that the team suffered in Tallahassee. The team was absolutely reamed in the media after that one, and a lot of radio and TV talents said that the team showed no heart or passion in that defeat, and that that would ultimately be the demise of the squad. Tyler Zeller is coming off of a 23 point game against the Wolfpack, and if Henson is going to be out of the lineup in this one, Zeller is going to have to be the one that challenges all of the rest of the FSU bigs. This isn’t a particularly great matchup if Henson is out.
The Final Word: Florida State might not be the better team in this game, but we think that this is a bad matchup as we mentioned for the Tar Heels. Though we think that there is definitely going to be some motivation for UNC to come out like gangbusters in this one, especially with a potential No. 1 seed in the dance on the line, we still think that the men in garnet and gold are going to get the job done.
