For the second straight season, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Clippers are going to be in action in the first round of the playoffs against one another, and the action should be furious, especially on the defensive side of the court. These two will meet in NBA betting action on Saturday in the last of four games on the evening.
The Grizzlies did everything that they could to get home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, but they just weren’t able to get the job done. That being said, they are still one of the most dangerous teams in the playoffs because they play outstanding defense. Memphis was the only team in the league to hold teams under 90 points per game this season, and squads only shot 43.5 percent from the floor and 33.8 percent from three-point range against it as well. There isn’t a team that plays better half court defense than this one in the Western Conference. Scoring though, tends to be a bit of a problem. The Grizz are only averaging 93.4 points per game this season, and they are clearly not nearly as capable of scoring now as they were before they traded F Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors before the trade deadline. Still, this is a solid team that has actually played as good of basketball after trading Gay as it did after the deal.
The Clippers won the Pacific Division this year in rare form, and they set their franchise record for the most wins in a season in team history with 56. The team is most known for its “Lob City” moniker, but this season, there was a lot less lobbing and a lot more crisp play. G Chris Paul had a tremendously efficient season on both sides of the court, and the fact that he was so good defensively is why the team ranked fourth in the league in total defense at 94.6 points per game allowed. This team is really hot at the moment, having won the final seven games of the season and covering five of the seven. Three of the last four wins came on the road, and that’s what guaranteed that this opening game of the playoffs was going to be played here and not on the road. This season’s team really has been well-rounded for all 82 games in spite of the fact that there have been a number of games missed due to injury. F Blake Griffin averaged 18.0 points per game this season, and he was one of the three that averaged at least 16.5 points per game and one of the seven that averaged at least 8.4 points per game.
Points were at a premium over the course of the first round series when these two teams met last year, and we think that we are going to see the same thing happen in this game. The half court game for the Grizzlies has been awesome over the course of the whole year, and this is going to be another one of these games where points are most certainly at a tremendous premium. Getting to 179.5 isn’t much, but we don’t see either of these teams getting into the 90s. Los Angeles 86 – Memphis 84
