Miami Dolphins vs. Oakland Raiders Free Pick, Trends, and Preview
(5-5, 6-4 ATS)
(5-5, 6-4 ATS)
Strength will be taking on strength at Oakland Alameda County Coliseum, as the road warriors, the Miami Dolphins, will take on the home heroes, the Oakland Raiders in NFL betting action. These teams are both 5-5 on the year, and the loser is going to be in a heck of a lot of trouble for the postseason push.
QB Chad Henne might be in a position where he can come back to the lineup this week, but if he can’t, the Fins are in a ton of trouble. They are going to be stuck with QB Tyler Thigpen, who was the QB of choice in the 16-0 shutout loss at home against the Chicago Bears last Thursday night. To make matters worse, WR Brandon Marshall is out of the lineup on Sunday, and is responsible for 693 yards on 58 receptions. The running game has really been down this year as well. RB Ronnie Brown has rushed for just 454 yards, while Ricky Williams only has 401 yards on the season. Neither one has had a single game this year with more than 80 yards on the ground, and if that doesn’t improve, the Dolphins are going to be in a heck of a lot trouble. Defensively, look for DE Cameron Wake to be spending a lot of time in the Oakland backfield. He already has 9.5 sacks this year, and he is leading a defense that is allowing just 309.5 yards per game to rank No. 7 in the NFL.
The Raiders watched their five game ATS winning streak go down the pipes last week with a 35-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field. The offense had put at least 23 points on the board in six of its previous seven games. QB Jason Campbell looked like he had control of the team until last week, but he really was terrible last week, causing some concern for HC Tom Cable. QB Bruce Gradkowski might be called upon to be the starter, though we aren’t so certain at this point. Either way, Oakland is going to be using its No. 2 ranked rushing game in the land to try to beat Miami. The Raiders are led by RB Darren McFadden, who has 771 rushing yards and four scores in just eight games this year, and he would be one of the top runners in the NFL had he not missed those two games. Just as Wake is going to be trying to cause some issues for the Oakland offense, the Raiders have a slew of pass rushers that can get the job done. Kamerion Wimbley, Matt Shaughnessy, and Tommy Kelly all have five sacks on the year, while five others have at least two sacks.
This game is virtually impossible to make a call on until we know whether it is going to be Henne or Thigpen in the lineup for the Fins, but we know that the Raiders have a consistent base on defense to build around. It might not be the prettiest game in the world, but Oakland is going to probably find a way to win this one.
