Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics: NBA Free Picks
(0-0, 0-0 ATS)
(0-0, 0-0 ATS)
The NBA betting season finally tips off on Tuesday night! As a part of a three pack of very crucial games early on, the most talked about team in the league, the Miami Heat, will debut their newest threesome against the team that originally won a championship by assembling three of the best stars in the NBA, the Boston Celtics.
The whole basketball betting world is completely stoked to see G Dwyane Wade, F LeBron James, and C Chris Bosh take to the court at the same time on Tuesday night. Wade has been dealing with a hamstring injury, but should be in the starting lineup without any reservations on Tuesday night to open the season. However, part of the problem that Miami might have could have been seen in a 2-4 preseason. With Wade not playing and F Mike Miller being out with an injured thumb that will cost him the first half of the season, there’s a real question about how well this team will react with such an iffy bench. G Mario Chalmers is going to be expected to step in and play in the backcourt alongside Wade, while G James Jones and G Eddie House are going to get some minutes as well. With Miller out of the fold, it is only up to rookie F Da’Sean Butler and veteran F Udonis Haslem to help out on the inside. Down low, is anyone really afraid of C Joel Anthony or C Zydrunas Ilgauskas at this point in their careers? We tend to believe not. This Miami team is chock full of three of the most talented players in the league, but that doesn’t mean that it makes for a fantastic team quite yet.
Losing C Kendrick Perkins until at least January was a horrifying blow to Boston’s chances of success, particularly in this game. The C’s still have plenty of depth on the inside, especially if C Shaquille O’Neal and his backup, C Jermaine O’Neal can find the Fountain of Youth at least for the first portion of the season. If needed, F Glen Davis can always slide further inside. However, this is a team that has been made on the play of its stars, and HC Doc Rivers will tell you, G Ray Allen, F Paul Pierce, and F Kevin Garnett are all capable of doing big things every single night. He’ll also tell you that it took some other role players to step up to win championships. G Rajon Rondo was absolutely the man that took charge in the playoffs last year, and in certain games, he single handedly carried the men in green. The former first round draft pick might have put up fairly average numbers last year in the regular season at 13.7 points, 9.8 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game, but he can do absolutely everything on the court, including getting down and dirty with the big men. Rivers will be calling on the captain though, as F Paul Pierce is going to be expected to be huge in this very big game. Pierce averaged 18.3 points per game last season to pace the squad.
Miami might be fantastic eventually, but Wade hasn’t been on the court in awhile. These Celtics know what they’re doing, and even without their big man in the middle, this is expected to be a statement game. You’re giving us Boston at a pick ‘em on the Parquet Floor? We’ll take our chances against those NBA odds.
