A pair of ACC Coastal Division rivals are going to meet in NCAA football betting action this week on Thursday night, as the Miami Hurricanes pay a visit to the North Carolina Tar Heels in a clash that is not to be missed by college football fanatics.
All of the talk all week long in the ACC is whether the Clemson Tigers or the Florida State Seminoles will be the team to beat in the conference. However, this Miami side is very quietly ranked in the Top 10 in the land and is poised to take the whole conference by storm if it gets the chance. Clemson isn’t on the schedule, and the game against FSU is late this season, and losing that game doesn’t preclude it from winning the conference crown. It’s the game against the Virginia Tech Hokies down the line that is going to be the most important if this one is won. QB Stephen Morris has had a week to rest up his various minor injuries, and he is going to be back in the saddle for this game, but the key is going to be how well RB Duke Johnson can handle the pressure of playing on the big time stage. Johnson has rumbled for 572 yards and four scores this season, and he is coming off of a game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in which he rushed for 184 yards, his second game this year in which he has picked up at least 180 yards on the ground.
The Tar Heels were supposed to challenge for the ACC title this year, but they have been one of the biggest disappointments in the whole country. A foot injury kept him on the sidelines in the team’s last game against the Virginia Tech Hokies, but he is confidence that he is going to get back in the lineup in this one. The Tar Heels aren’t getting anything going on the ground, as they are averaging just 100.0 yards per game, proving that they are really missing RB Giovani Bernard, who graduated last year. The team is averaging nearly 300 yards per game throwing the rock, but the defense is giving up more yards than the offense is managing. The end result is just a 1-4 record, and losing this game could be a signal that the chances at a bowl game are said and done with. There are still two very tough road games left against the NC State Wolfpack and the Pittsburgh Panthers, and UNC would literally have to be perfect aside from those games to have a shot to go bowling at that point.
North Carolina is a much better side than 1-4 suggests, and most forget that this team has played a heck of a schedule to date. Though Miami has covered four games in a row and North Carolina has failed to cover three in a row, and though the Canes have covered the last three in this series, this still strikes us as a game that is going to come right down to the wire.
