On Sunday afternoon in primetime college basketball betting we get to see a repeat of arguably the best game played to this point when the Michigan Wolverines play host to the Michigan State Spartans at 12:00 ET on ESPN inside Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham. Back on February 1st, these two played to a thrilling overtime conclusion as Michigan State beat Michigan 91-89 at the Carrier Dome.
The Spartans finally suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday night when the Boston College Eagles upset them 62-59 in overtime. Michigan State had been living dangerously of late taking narrow wins over lesser opponents before BC finished the job. Everything went wrong for the Spartans as they shot just 32 percent from the floor and relied on a solid defensive effort to keep them in the game. Senior F C.J. Fair played all 45 minutes scoring 20 points, grabbing 11 boards, and had two blocks. Fair is a sure fire first rounder in this year’s NBA draft, he averages 16.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Michigan State is 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS on the road this season making it one of the best road squads in the nation. The Spartans come in as the No. 1 ranked team in college basketball, that figures to be in jeopardy if they suffer a second loss of the week in this game. Michigan State is the No. 7 defensive team in the country giving up 58.3 points per game. However, it gave up 15 three pointers to Michigan in the last meeting and must correct that this time to get a win.
The Wolverines let an 11 point second half lead go on Thursday as they were upset by their rival the North Carolina Tar Heels 74-66 in Chapel Hill. Michigan was outscored 34-15 in the last 15 minutes of the game after holding a 51-40 lead. Freshman F Jabari Parker led the way for the Wolverines scoring 17 points to go with 11 rebounds and two blocks. Parker is averaging 19.2 points and 8.7 boards per game. Michigan will be happy to see the Cameron Crazies after two games on the road, it is 14-0 SU on Mike Krzyzewski Court and is 9-5 ATS in those games. Wolverines G Andre Dawkins gave his team a huge lift off the bench as he shot 4-of-7 from three point range in the last meeting with the Spartans including the shot that forced overtime. Michigan is deadly from behind the arc shooting 40.9 percent on the year, it will need a big effort on its home floor from the shooters that made it happen in Michigan State.
After the unpredictable way in which the last meeting played out, it’s anyone’s guess if these two can rebound off losses and repeat the level of play we saw earlier this month. The Wolverines have yet to flinch on their home floor and that makes us tend to like their chances in this one. We expect a lot of scoring from Michigan as it will be playing with a chip on its shoulder after a loss at North Carolina and fighting for revenge on Michigan State. Either way it plays out, we’re rolling with the home team and looking forward to another instant classic. Michigan 84 – Michigan State 82
