The Sun Belt Conference will get the College Football week started early this Tuesday night when the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders travel to take on the Troy Trojans. Each team is off to an early 1-0 start in the conference and will attempt to stay among the unbeaten teams in the conference this Tuesday night. The Blue Raiders have some quality wins to their resume through the early part of the year including victories over Memphis and Maryland. It is safe to say the Blue Raiders are not any type of pushover, but the Trojans have dominated the series winning the last 3 meetings. Troy looks to get back over the .500 mark and continue their success over their conference rivals. However, this could be a different Blue Raiders opponent from year’s past.

Middle Tennessee State has found success on the offensive side of the ball this season averaging 29 points per game. The Blue Raiders come rolling into the contest after a 37-21 victory two weeks back and had some extra time to prepare for the Trojans. Junior quarterback Dwight Dasher has been fairly solid, but he has had help from 10 other returning starters on the offensive side of the ball. Dasher has thrown for 1028 yards in just 4 games and has 7 touchdowns with 5 interceptions.

However, 3 of those interceptions were thrown in the opener against Clemson. Dasher also leads the team in rushing with 251 yards and 3 additional touchdowns as a superior dual threat quarterback. The biggest target for the Blue Raiders quarterback has been senior wide out Chris McClover. McClover is a tall receiver who demands attention and he was a big contributor to the Blue Raiders upset over Maryland catching 7 passes for 110 yards. McClover and Dasher will look to hook up on a more consistent basis against the Trojans Tuesday night.

The Trojans defense was suppose to be the major strength of the team this year after leading the conference in pass defense, run defense, and total defense in 2008. However, the defense has been anything but spectacular early this season allowing 263 yards through the air and another 146 on the ground. The Trojans have given up those numbers to some quality football teams including top ranked Florida which may have those numbers skewed, but they are still way off from their 2008 standards. However, the defense will look to get back on track this Tuesday night against a team they have had a lot of success against over the years.

The Trojans are also an accomplished passing threat that relies heavily on their quarterback. Senior Levi Brown had a slow start, but has rallied since throwing for 768 yards in the last two games while completing over 70% in both contests. Brown has 1,097 yards on the season and has looked very well strong in recent weeks which should cause for concern over the Blue Raiders secondary. Junior WR Tebiarus Gill leads the team with 23 catches for 280 yards and 2 scores. Gill will be a guy to keep you eye on, but Brown is the guy that is really performing. The Trojans quarterback has been red hot over the past two weeks and will try to keep the momentum alive against the Blue Raiders.

Betting Trends –

The Blue Raiders are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games, but only 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a bye week. Troy is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games and 4-1 ATS against Sun Belt opponents in their last 5 games.

Pick – Trojans passing success has come from pass defenses that ranked 107th and 119th which is not near as impressive as first perceived. The Blue Raiders have played very well against solid teams and they should pull out the victory as the Trojans defense continues to disappoint. Take MTSU +6.5
