Monday Night Football betting action heads to the Big Apple, where “Broadway Brett” will return to the play where he originally made his first triumphant return to the NFL. He’ll lead his Minnesota Vikings into NFL wagering warfare against the New York Jets.
The Vikings are going to have a new, yet very familiar face lined up on the outside on offense this week. WR Randy Moss was acquired from the New England Patriots for a third round draft choice, and he’ll immediately look to step in and help out a struggling Minnesota passing game. The aforementioned QB Brett Favre is throwing picks left and right once again after his one year hiatus from tossing INTs, as he already has six through three games in comparison to the seven that he had all of last regular season. Our hunch says that Favre will be well over that mark by the time that the Vikes are done on Monday Night Football, especially with a secondary featuring Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, and Kyle Wilson. This is one of the more ferocious rush defenses in football, which means that RB Adrian Peterson will have his work cut out for him. AP is coming off of a 160 yard game against the Detroit Lions two weeks ago, and he was the one that insisted that there was nothing to worry about in Minneapolis after an 0-2 start.
As for the Jets, they are going to once again be relying on a stout rushing game and that stellar, blitzing defense to try to stymie the man that once led their team. HC Rex Ryan knows that trying to run against the Vikes at times might be like trying to run through a brick wall. However, that doesn’t mean that he’s not willing to try, especially after having both RB Shonn Greene and RB LaDainian Tomlinson rush for over 100 yards last weekend in a romp of the Buffalo Bills. If the rushing game fails though, there is reason to believe that QB Mark Sanchez might be able to really keep the offense going. Not only has Sanchez done a great job of holding onto the football this year, as he has eight scores against no picks, but he is getting a huge weapon to play with this week in the form of WR Santonio Holmes. Holmes was suspended for the first four weeks of the season for violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy, but he’ll be back this week with a long week of preparation, and he might be able to have a huge impact on this game. Don’t be shocked to see the combination of Holmes and WR Braylon Edwards streaking up the field quite a bit, which makes this New York offense all the more dangerous.
The Jets look frighteningly good right now on both sides of the ball. We already know what a genius Ryan can be defensively, and now with names like Sanchez, Tomlinson, Greene, Holmes, Edwards, WR Jerricho Cotchery, and TE Dustin Keller, the offense suddenly looks awfully formidable with a ton of options as well. Don’t kid yourself. This game could be the first on a series of romps for the men in green against very solid ball clubs.
