The Stanley Cup Playoffs will continue on Sunday in NHL betting action when the Chicago Blackhawks play host to the Minnesota Wild on NBC at 3:00 p.m. ET on the ice inside the United Center. This will be the second in a seven game series in the second round as the Blackhawks have grabbed a 1-0 lead with a win on Friday.
The Wild battled hard in the series opening game as they fell behind 2-0 before rallying back to tie it up in the third period. Unfortunately they fell short giving up the game winner later in that period to take a 5-2 loss after another goal and an empty netter. Clayton Stoner got the first goal for Minnesota and was quickly followed by Kyle Brodziak’s equalizer with 13:04 remaining in the game. Wild G Ilya Bryzgalov only faced 21 shots in the contest, but he let in four goals before being pulled for the extra man in the final minutes. He will certainly have to step up his performance in Game 2 for his team to have any shot at stopping this high powered group of Blackhawks. The ‘over’ cashed in Game 1 thanks to a defensive breakdown by Minnesota that allowed Chicago to take a two goal lead late in the contest. To pull the upset against the Colorado Avalanche in the first round the Wild were able to score goals and they must get out to a strong start with an early tally in this game.
The Blackhawks were able to handle the challenge that the Wild provided on Friday by getting two clutch goals from Patrick Kane who has been their leader all season long. Kane’s first goal of this series gave his team a 3-2 lead and proved to be the game-winner, but his second goal put the nail in Minnesota’s coffin. This Chicago offense has been nearly impossible to contain in the playoffs as it is scoring 3.5 goals per game. Friday’s win was the fifth in a row for the Blackhawks as they have become a dominant force to contend with in these playoffs. The defending champs will once again be primed to play their best hockey in Game 2 and take care of business against this overmatched Wild team. Chicago G Corey Crawford was sensational through the first two periods of Game 1 and did enough to get the win as he had 30 saves on the 32 shots he saw in the contest. If Crawford can continue to be solid between the pipes we could be talking about a sweep in this series.
The Blackhawks are simply too much for the Wild to contain in this series and we won’t be surprised to see some close games in this series. However, Chicago is 6-1 in its L/7 meetings with Minnesota when playing in the United Center. We expect to see the Blackhawks once again dominate in crunch time and have their way with Bryzgalov and the Wild defense as they will take a 2-0 series lead.
