MLB Betting Trends Series Starting 4/15/13

Two weeks of the regular season are in the books. Atlanta has the best record in baseball, and Justin Upton is looking like baseball’s best offseason acquisition. Miami is getting beat up on an almost daily basis. San Diego is at the bottom of the pack in the NL West. Carlos Quentin of the Padres was in the news for all the wrong reasons when he charged the mound and knocked out the Dodgers Zack Greinke for at least eight weeks.

There are plenty of interesting matchups at the beginning of this week, including another meeting between the Padres and Dodgers. The surprising Mets will take on the surprising Rockies in Colorado. Which team can keep their momentum going? Tampa Bay and Baltimore meet in a key AL East series.

BangtheBook wants to give baseball bettors some extra information to try to stay ahead of the books this year. This MLB betting article will be done twice a week during the baseball season to give you trends to consider before wagering your money on baseball. Let’s look at trends to consider for series’ during the work week this week.

-The Mets are just 11-31 in their last 42 games against a team with a winning record. The Mets have started quicker than expected, but it will be interesting to see how they do as their competition gets tougher.

MLB Betting Trends Series Starting 4/15/13-Why doesn’t Jordan Zimmerman get any credit from the national media? Many experts talk about how good the Nationals starting rotation is, but don’t even mention Zimmerman’s excellent history. The Nationals are 16-5 in Zimmerman’s last 21 starts.  They are also 8-1 in Zimmerman’s last 9 starts against the NL East. He’ll square off against Miami in a mismatch on Monday night.

-Philadelphia has really had Cincinnati’s number over the last few years. The Phillies are 38-15 in their last 53 games against the Reds. That includes a sweep over them in the playoffs a couple of years ago. The Phillies are 20-8 in their last 28 games in Cincinnati. These two start a three-game series on Monday.

-Oakland is off to another red hot start after stunning the baseball world by winning the AL West in 2012. The Athletics have been particularly dominant when facing left-handed pitchers. Oakland is 6-0 in their last 6 games against lefties. The Athletics will face a lefty in Erik Bedard as they host the Houston Astros on Monday night.

-The Angels have started off the season in a major slump for the second straight year. Can they bust out of that slump with a big series against the lowly Minnesota Twins? Minnesota is just 15-36 in their last 51 games against the AL West. The Angels are 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these teams.

-The Rangers and Cubs start an Interleague series on Tuesday. Texas is 13-3 in their last 16 Interleague games. Texas is also an amazing 64-28 in their last 92 games following a loss. Look for spots to back the Rangers coming off a loss.

-The Braves are 24-2 in Kris Medlen’s last 26 starts. Medlen will start on Tuesday at home against the Kansas City Royals. Kansas City will start Jeremy Guthrie, who has been a surprisingly big moneymaker for bettors of late. Kansas City is 12-1 in Guthrie’s last 13 starts. Something has to give in this one.
