Fox Saturday Baseball returns with a nice slate of afternoon games this week. One of the games on the schedule is the Milwaukee Brewers against the San Francisco Giants. Milwaukee ran away with the NL Central this year, but they are off to a slow start in 2012. San Francisco won the World Series in 2010, and narrowly missed the playoffs in 2011. Both teams are underperforming versus expectations so far this season.

Milwaukee is trying to adjust to life without Prince Fielder. There is a major void in the middle of the order, but the Brewers still have a very talented lineup. Ryan Braun missed Friday’s game due to an Achilles issue, and he is listed as questionable for Saturday. The team definitely can’t afford to have Braun miss much time. Milwaukee’s offense hit a new low earlier this week when they were shut out in back-to-back games against the lowly San Diego Padres. Some timely hitting from Jonathan Lucroy helped the team snap out of it a bit last night against Tim Lincecum. Rickie Weeks, Aramis Ramirez, and Nyjer Morgan are all hitting .203 or lower at this point in the season. These are guys that the team is really counting on to turn it around soon.

Randy Wolf has never been an overpowering pitcher at all, but as he has aged he has become even more of a finesse pitcher. Wolf has to hit his spots perfectly to be effective. Thus far in 2012 he has a high 6.86 ERA and a WHIP of 1.90. The Brewers pitching staff ranks dead last in the majors in WHIP, so they are dealing with runners on base almost all the time.

Madison Bumgarner just signed a long-term contract extension a few weeks ago. Bumgarner hasn’t been in the majors two years yet, but he already got a nice $35 million contract for five years. Bumgarner has definitely shown he is capable of big things, and the Giants love how he performed on the big stage as a rookie in the World Series. He is an impressive 4-1 with a 2.53 ERA so far this season.

The Giants have a healthy Buster Posey back in the lineup this year, but Pablo Sandoval is now out for a long time due to a broken hand. San Francisco’s offense isn’t very good to start with, and they really can’t afford to be without key players like Sandoval. The Giants are 20th in the majors in runs scored per game at 3.80. Melky Cabrera has been a nice acquisition, and he is hitting .301 for the team. Posey leads the team with a .325 average.

Betting Trends

The Brewers are 21-5 in their last 26 Saturday games. Milwaukee is just 2-8 in their last 10 road games.

The Giants are 11-1 in Bumgarner’s last 12 home starts. They are 7-0 in Bumgarner’s last 7 starts against a team with a losing record.

The under is 20-8-1 in Bumgarner’s last 29 home starts. The under is 5-0 in Wolf’s last 5 against the Giants.

MLB Free Pick: Under 7

Bumgarner is really in a groove right now, and Wolf has very good career numbers against the Giants. Look for a low scoring contest.
