MLB Pick: New York Mets vs. New York Yankees Kick off your July in style on Friday with a great set of MLB betting action here at Bang the Book! We’ll get started with a crucial tilt in the Big Apple in the first game of a three game set between the New York Mets and the New York Yankees.
The Yankees head to Citi Field as the leaders in the AL East, and they also sport one of the best road records in the game at 20-13. They’re also sporting a five game winning streak in which they have scored at least five runs in all five games. The pitching staff has done well to boot, allowing just a total of 11 runs in these five outings. Now it’s up to the young Ivan Nova to keep things going. He was the man that pitched New York to victory in the first game of this five game stretch, and he’s going to be asked to do even more than he did in that game against the Colorado Rockies when he allowed four runs over six innings of work. Nova doesn’t have fantastic splits this year. He only has a 4.26 ERA to go with a 48/35 K/BB ratio. For having pitched 86.2 innings of work, that walk total is too high and the strikeout total is far too low. Still, Nova has a 7-4 mark to show or his work this year, and as long as he keeps that up, Manager Joe Girardi will have no complaints, especially since he’s in the back of the rotation.
The Mets are playing awfully good ball as well right now, as they hit the halfway point of the season a game above .500. The offense had scored 30 runs in its past two games combined before running into the buzz saw known as Justin Verlander with the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, and the hope is that the ‘O’ can pick it back up against Nova, a man who is nowhere near winning the Cy Young Award like Verlander is. Jon Niese is the man that is going to be hurling on Friday night in the first duel of this three game set for the Mets. The southpaw is definitely one to watch since he has been dealing with some heart related issues over the course of the last few days. Still, Niese is expected to be out there. The hope is that he can throw 100+ pitches for the first time in five starts, but the truth of the matter is that he has gotten the win in three of those previous four outings, so no one is complaining about his results on the MLB odds.
New York Mets @ New York Yankees Pick: Neither one of these pitchers really thrills us in this game. The Yankees are overpriced in this one though, and we are getting a fantastic set of MLB lines on the hosts. Go with the Mets +110.
